A free CRM core that scales into a full sales, marketing and service platform
HubSpot changed what people expect from a CRM by giving the core away. The free tier is not a crippled trial, it is a usable CRM with contact management, deal tracking, email and forms, and for a great many UK small businesses it is genuinely all they need to start. The commercial model is that you grow into the paid Hubs as your needs deepen, and understanding that path is the key to whether HubSpot fits you.
The free core is the strongest on the market. Contacts, companies, deals, tasks, email tracking and basic reporting cost nothing, and the interface is clean enough that a non technical team adopts it without training. For a business that has been running sales off a spreadsheet, that alone is transformative.
The platform breadth is the second draw. When you outgrow free, Sales Hub adds automation, sequences and forecasting, Marketing Hub adds campaigns and nurture, and Service Hub adds ticketing, all sharing one contact record. A business that wants marketing and sales and support on one database rather than three integrations gets exactly that.
The education and ecosystem are underrated. HubSpot Academy, the large app marketplace and the enormous partner network mean help is always available.
The jump from free to paid is steep. Sales Hub Professional runs around seventy seven pounds per seat and Enterprise around a hundred and thirty five, and once marketing contacts and add ons stack up the bill grows quickly. Many businesses feel the pricing pinch exactly when they are becoming dependent on it.
Marketing Hub in particular ties cost to contact volume, so a growing database drives cost in a way that can surprise you. Model your two year trajectory, not just today.
The sheer breadth can be more than a simple sales team needs, and a lighter tool such as Pipedrive or Capsule may fit a pure sales use case better.
HubSpot serves UK businesses widely, with UK and EU data hosting options and a large UK partner base. It is a CRM and marketing platform rather than an accounting tool, so the relevant UK considerations are data residency and GDPR handling of contact data rather than HMRC compliance. Prices exclude VAT.
UK businesses that want to start free and grow into marketing and service alongside sales on one platform. Teams that only need a focused sales pipeline should compare against Pipedrive and Capsule, which cost less for that narrower job.

The team adopted it without any training, which never happens, and the free tier got our whole sales team off spreadsheets at no cost. No complaints so far.

The app marketplace connected to everything we already run. Only real gripe is that it is more platform than a small sales team needs.
